The
seaside town of St Andrews is the sparkling gem of
the Kingdom of Fife,
across the Firth of Forth from Edinburgh. It is most
famous for the Old Course, the world’s most prestigious
golf course, but offers many other attractions for the
visitor.
St Andrews was Scotland’s ancient religious centre. Perched
high on a cliff overlooking the sea, the stunning ruins of
the huge mediaeval cathedral are truly a sight to behold.
St Andrews University, attended by Prince William, is the
oldest in Scotland and the third oldest in Britain after
Oxford and Cambridge. With its beautiful white sand
beaches, grand architecture and compact centre, it is a
perfect place for a walking tour.
